Restrictions have eased and Smear players have started shuffling in again. As we have computer classes on Tuesdays, for the time being we will be playing cards on Monday and Friday at 1:15. The Wednesday drop in will take place Wednesdays from 10 to 12, as the afternoon is needed for more computer learning.
It has been a year since we began writing a grant proposal to hold computer training for seniors at the Rainy River Senior Depot. The Ontario government approved it in December 2020. We have been isolating or shut down and unable to get together indoors since then. We are so happy to announce that classes began on July 19th with almost all of our registrants coming to “summer school” proving that it’s never too late to learn. We not only have students from Rainy River, but also from Morson, Dawson and Pinewood as well. Our instructors, Don Ricci and Laura Armistead are armed with ideas to make learning fun. There can be moments of frustration, but we keep trying and the lessons learned will soon come naturally as we practice and make use of the lessons. Today I watched two happy grandparents visit with their family in Calgary face to face on Skype.
We also launched our own website which contains a growing wealth of information for seniors as well as anyone with an interest in our community. We have begun to add photos and there are games and quizzes to keep our brains sharp. You don’t have to be a senior to enjoy the site. Check us out at

Thank you to the government of Ontario for the grant allowing us to provide this service. Also thank you to our Economic Development Officer, Gajith Jinadasa for guiding us through the process and for his encouragement when it sometimes felt we would never make it to this day.
