The Depot this November has become a beehive of activity and excitement.

*New SENIOR ACTIVE LIVING CENTRE  (SALC) GRANT FOR US

We have received news that for the first time in memory our group will receive from the Senior Active Living Centre grant (SALC) much more than the usual rent money, which each year we gratefully pay back to our municipal office. We now will be able to provide or subsidize many of the services and activities that we have seen other senior groups enjoy. The executive is presently putting together ideas and will be meeting to make plans for the depot. Stay tuned for further announcements.

*CHRISTMAS DINNER:

Our first big event will be to subsidize our supporting members’ annual Christmas dinner, which will be held on December 14th. The format will be the same as last year with fixed numbers for inside and takeout orders. Priority for inside dining will be for active members.

*SENIOR’S FAIR:

November 3rd was the first of 3 days of our FREE Seniors’ Fair, complete with lunch.
With representatives from NWHU, Rainy River Clinic, Pampered chef, Canadian Mental health, and the Alzheimers Society, participants were able to learn about vaccines, dental help for seniors, defibrillator training, healthy eating and more. The day was a roaring success.

If you missed that event, you have another chance on Thursday, November 10th with information from the Metis Federation, Footcare, Riverside Community Support, Adult Day Away Program, Home and Community Support Services. We are also pleased to have with us on this day, Lina Zita from the head office of the OLDER ADULT CENTRES’ ASSOCIATION OF ONTARIO (OACAO) in Toronto.

The third and last day of the fair is on Thursday, November 17th. This day will cover

Legal information for seniors, how to avoid being scammed, and powers of attorney. Nutritional information will be provided by Valley Diabetes.

The fair is a perfect time to get answers from the experts to your questions and enjoy a healthy lunch.

We thank Norma Johnston and her crew of seniors for a mountain of work to get this happening on a small budget. (Bear in mind that other senior fairs have only held one day of fair, not 3!)
We also thank the OLDER ADULT CENTRES’ ASSOCIATION OF ONTARIO with funding provided by the Government of Ontario. One email from them got this whole event started.

*BE SAFE
Please remember that the winter flu season is here and COVID has not gone away. Play safe.
