February 2022 Newsletter

Winter lockdowns:

We are now into our 3rd winter of COVID lockdowns and isolation. It seems most of the local people I talk to feel that we have been fortunate to have avoided most of the illness that other places have gone through, but there have been a few of our neighbours and friends who have suffered the effects of COVID and we are happy that most have recovered fully. We must continue to be careful when we go out, not only for ourselves, but to protect others. We are also weary of this very cold winter. Remember that a smile or word of kindness to each other can mean the world of difference in someone’s day.

Christmas Dinner:

In December we were able to hold a scaled down Christmas dinner with some people dining inside the depot and others picking up their dinner to take home. Everyone enjoyed the good food prepared by Michelle Abraham and her parents. Theresa Johnson played the keyboard for carol singing after dessert. Shortly after the dinner the province shut down again and so did we. A Christmas Day Brunch for single seniors had to be cancelled at the last minute because of this.

Drop-in and Cards:

Carol Pratt opens the Depot every Wednesday at 10 a.m. for a 2-hour drop-in. This is a good time to grab a coffee, warm up and have a short visit. There were no January or February meetings and we have just started opening up again. Smear is being played on Tuesday and Friday afternoons at 1:15.

New Agenda for Meetings:
At our December meeting we talked of things we would like to do in the new year. A decision was made to make our meeting day more than just a meeting. Our meetings will be held on the first Wednesday every month at 11 a.m. This gives us time before the meeting to have coffee and catch up with our friends before we start. We decided to hold an inexpensive luncheon after each meeting, hosted by two volunteer members. We quickly filled that position for the first 4 meetings of the year, (two of which had to be cancelled). Lunch with dessert will cost between five and ten dollars. We would also like to have a fun event or craft after lunch, perhaps with a monthly theme…March is St. Patrick’s Day…wear green.

New Activities:
As we think of activities that we may want to try we will put a sign-up sheet on the table in the depot. If we get some interest in these activities we will set a date to hold them. Some activity sheets will be available at the meeting. Suggestions are welcome.

Why come to a meeting?

You won’t have to wonder what’s going on at the depot! You’ll know.
You will touch base with old friends and meet new ones.
Enjoy an inexpensive lunch together.
Offer your insight and suggestions. Become involved in your community.

Our March general meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 2 at 11 a.m.

Drop in early and enjoy a coffee before we meet.
After the meeting we will provide lunch for $5.00 followed by a fun activity.
Be prepared to laugh.
