Six members signed up in March for a short excursion to Winnipeg. After travelling by bus we thoroughly enjoyed supper together at the Old Spaghetti Factory and a quick walk through the Forks before taking a cab to our hotel. The next morning we partook of a good breakfast at the hotel and then our Uber picked us up to spend the morning at the Leaf, Winnipeg’s new conservatory at Assinboine Park.
We stepped out of the snowy landscape into the warm beauty of an oasis of flowers and trees. We took our time enjoying the diversity of plants before stepping behind a veil of water and into the glass elevator which brought us up to the butterfly room at the top. After a quick lunch, our Uber picked us up and brought us to the Forks where we now had more time to explore the shops and try some delicious cinnamon buns. Then back to the hotel to change before being picked up for the main event.
We had a front row table at Celebrations Dinner Theatre. The meal was great and the entertainment was top-notch! We were treated to a visit to Heartbreak Hotel! After all this time, you still can’t beat Elvis and Marilyn Munroe! They sang all the old favorites and we hummed along with them all (in our heads, of course).
The next morning we enjoyed our breakfast again at the hotel, and because we had some time to kill before heading out to the bus, we proceeded to teach the non-players how to play Smear. The trip home was quiet as we had loaded up on snacks at the forks and tried to get them eaten before we got home. I don’t think any of us succeeded that endeavor. We all agreed that we’d like to go on another excursion if one was planned…maybe Rainbow Stage in the summer?
